Eucalyptus conjures images of Australia, whose old-growth forests primarily consist of this large, strong tree. The tree grows from 135 to 300 feet tall and is the tallest known flowering plant on Earth. Although native to Australia, it was successfully introduced to California also grows in South America.

The heartwood is red to reddish-brown and will darken over time. The grain is slightly interlocked sometimes displaying a ripply or fiddleback pattern.

The traditional Aboriginal didgeridoos were created from the eucalyptus log and the oil is used for fuels, fragrances and insect repellents.

This piece includes Burl wood, an explosion of cellular growth, which yields highly figured and unique patterning prized for its beauty and rarity.

This Eucalyptus was sourced from a wood turner who brought it in from Australia. Unlike most of the wood we use, this wood was already “seasoned” providing our artists a whole different experience at the lathe.
